After teaching art for 25 years and raising 3 adopted children with her husband,
newly found time freedom allowed Susan to paint professionally.
She uses a limited primary color palette of oil paint to mix the endless variety of colors in nature.
She has been influenced by many impressionist painters from the past,
as well as present plein air painters.
As one of the four founding members of Jemez Fine Art Gallery,
Susan helped fulfill a need for a local venue for the many artists in this area;
this vision became a reality in 2009. It has been a wonderful addition to the community,
providing an opportunity for artists to exhibit their own work or be part of a group show.
Joining Plein Air Painters of New Mexico and other organizations has provided opportunities
for classes, workshops, and shows. Susan coordinated many paintouts,
was Cochair of both PAPNM 2017 and 2019 Spring Paintout and Shows.
She served on the 2018 Board of Directors of PAPNM as Events Coordinator.
She continues to show and sell paintings, win awards, mentor,
and teach all ages of aspiring painters in schools, art camps, etc.
She continues as Coordinator at Jemez Fine Art Gallery in Jemez Springs,
where Susan’s paintings are shown.
Susan’s landscape paintings have been accepted into many juried New Mexico and National exhibits.
She considers it an honor to have won several awards.
Plein Air painting is challenging because of the elements,
but Susan continually learns while developing her personal style.
She says, “I paint in response to God’s amazing creation
and that creative spirit which has always been within me.
I hope that my paintings give the viewer a sense of awe and wonder for the beauty which surrounds us!”
