Michael Andryc is a self-taught artist originally from Coventry,
Rhode Island. He has been painting for more than 35 years and has done outdoor and indoor shows
for almost as long in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Los Alamos, and many smaller communities in Northern New Mexico.
Titles and narratives are integral to his acrylic paintings, as are humor and parody.
He weaves the story-telling tradition into his artwork that he calls “Sophisticated Primitive” Modern Art.
Michael often works in a series where he draws from the imagination, family history, dreams, jokes, current events etc. in an attempt to “write (his) own version of history.” The end result is usually something that loosely resembles folk art but that he sometimes jokingly refers to as “Folk Art Gone Wrong.”
Fans of his unique style were delighted when he showed his work most recently at the Newc Mexico State Fair and the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Arts and Crafts Show. Currently he has several pieces on display in the "I Am Become Death" Exhibit at the Fuller Lodge Art Center in Los Alamos. You can see more of his work at:
